Healthy Indiana Plan - SUD-SMI Extension

On December 20, 2024, Indiana submitted a request to extend the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and the Serious Mental Illness (SMI) portions of its Medicaid section 1115(a) demonstration entitled “Healthy Indiana Plan”. Under the demonstration extension, the state intends to continue to the SUD and SMI program as currently approved, and to seek new authority for Former Foster Youth. Under the Former Foster Youth program, the state’s request will align with eligibility rules for youth formerly in foster care who turned 18 before January 1, 2023 with those individuals who turned 18 on or after January 1, 2023 who are eligible for state plan eligibility under the Substance Use Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities Act which created a new Former Foster Care Children Medicaid state plan eligibility group. The federal public comment period will be open from January 2, 2025 through February 1, 2025.
