Alabama Plan First - Extension Request
On November 30, 2021, Alabama submitted an extension application for the Alabama Plan First demonstration. The current demonstration expires on 9/30/2022. The state is seeking a five year extension of all the existing demonstration authorities. In the current demonstration, the state is authorized to provide family planning services to 1) women, ages 19 through 55, with income up to 141 percent of the federal poverty level (FPL) who are not otherwise eligible for Medicaid; and, 2) men age 2l or older with income up to 141 percent of the FPL who are not otherwise eligible for Medicaid and are seeking vasectomy services and related counseling and case management services. The state is seeking to add, as a family planning service, the removal of migrated or embedded contraceptive methods, such as implantable contraceptives, in an office setting or outpatient surgical facility to the approved demonstration services. The federal public comment period will be open from December 9, 2021 through January 8, 2022.
